The festival team visit Hamilton Campus to focus on the themes journalism, events and the links between the forthcoming 2012 Olympic and 2014 Commonwealth games. They’ll be hands-on workshops and displays in the morning, the launch of the #citizensrelay project and a #media2012/#media2014 symposium in the afternoon. Exploring who are working with media in the area and discussing tools and techniques for making media, getting it published and meeting others who are interested in themes and events in the area. Find out how to become a citizen’s reporter, or come along if you’re interested in learning more about writing articles, making short films, taking photos, broadcasting or using social media.
10.00-11.00: Official Launch of CitizenRelay, Ground Floor Caird Building, UWS Hamilton Campus
CitizenRelay is a participatory media project conceived to amplify London 2012 Cultural Olympiad activity taking place across Scotland. Led by the UWS Skillset Media Academy it engages individuals and groups across the length and breadth of Scotland to generate multimedia content, aggregate it on one web platform and share alternative stories about the Olympics with regional partners in the #media2012 national initiative. It’s unique vision is to provide a space for the oral and visual recording of Scotland’s citizens’ views on the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.
The morning will offer the opportunity to hear the outline of project, explore the Torch Relay timeline, launch process for recruitment & training and launch the web portal.

Workshops on citizen journalism, social media, editing and sound and using internet tools for events, journalism, research and education. This will include guests from NewsNet (Media Trust), Somewhereto_, Citizen’s Eye and Mind Waves. 18.00-20.00 Mega Events under Austerity: Radical Media Show-and-Tell (Hamilton Student Union)
This informal meet-up invites those who have been working in the area of critiquing mega events such as the Olympic and Commonwealth Games and all those who are interested in finding out more. There will also be film screenings examining conflicts over urban space, regeneration and privatisation . All welcome.
